Finding a unique wine gift: some tips and suggestions

Some people stress over choosing a gift, either for their nearest and dearest, a family member, good friend or someone they don't know very well, a work colleague for example.

In the past I used the 3B solution to gift choosing. Whenever I had to buy a gift I would appraise the situation and give either a Bottle of wine, a Box of chocolates or a Book.

The 3B system not a bad start, but you can do better than that. Now that you have found the Vinodiversity Wine Gift shop I hope you can do better.

Have you considered eBay as a source for unique gifts? Many of the items, particularly vintage or collectible items, just can't be store bought anymore. A great gift need not be expensive, but if it conveys that you have taken time to find something unique and appropriate it will be appreciated all the more.

Gifts can convey a message. You really care about the recipient. Giving something appropriate takes just a little more thought, but it is well worth it, both for you and for the recipient.

Here are a few ideas, just to get the creative juices flowing.

A bottle of wine. Great for many situations, but unless it's something really special(and expensive) it may not be memorable

A Fancy Corkscrew. The way things are going it will be a collectible soon, even if it's the latest model today. Do some window shopping for something really unusual.

A Decanter. Good choice! It can be as basic and inexpensive as you like or a wonderful piece of precious decorative art. Browse this page to see what I mean.

Glassware. This wine gift will last longer than a bottle. Again there is a huge range of price and quality. You can go upmarket and buy Reidel glasses for someone special, or perhaps something less expensive. You will find some ideas browsing this store, including Riedel at prices that may surprise you.

Gift hampers. These are an old favourite. They are fun to receive. Many online stores have a range of them. They are useful for long range giving. Perhaps the drawback is that they can be a little impersonal, unless you make your own.

Wall posters, charts and maps. You can help someone make a statement about themselves by giving them some thing to put on the wall in their cellar, dining room or den. The range of prices here is fairly broad, from not much more than the price of a cup of coffee through to several hundred dollars.

Something else? You might be looking for something different, or you might be just trawling for ideas. This is the place to be. You will find a gift here if your budget is $10 or S10,000
